Craigslist pets - To help prevent animal abuse and unnecessary torture, immediately remove pets. Beware, rehoming pets on Craigslist is dangerous, & abandoning or advertising-free pets for a good home is not the right thing to do unless you have done your homework before.

Craigslist pets

Without knowing exactly where an animal came from or where it is going, people posting or adopting pets on Craigslist are taking huge risks. People acquiring pets to use for dog fighting rings are known to turn up on Craigslist to collect loose pets or pets advertised for sale with women and children in tow, to appear as though the pets are going to families or good homes.

In many cases, people selling these animals have no best interests in mind for their pets, their only concern is making a profit.

The selling issue is that many pet litters are coming from illegal puppy and kitten mills. Some may present themselves as good pet owners, but without the background checks, home visits, and pre-screening tests many shelters and animal rescues do, it is hard to confirm their veracity.

Sometimes they use advertisements and posters, while at other times, they simply surrender dogs to strangers who are interested in adopting their pets.

Just because a dog is listed on Craigslist does not mean it can go into a shelter or rescue, but some dogs listed on Craigslist do. I am sure there are good dogs listed on Craigslist, as well as desperate owners who do not know where else to turn.

Now that I scared you off craigslist, I really do want to say it is possible to find a good dog of a mixed breed. If you spend any amount of time at all on Craigslist, you are going to see lots of cats, dogs, and other small animals looking for new homes.

Of course, you could adopt too, since the local animal shelters are full of dogs and cats looking for new homes. Depending on where you live, some dogs listed on Craigslist as available for rehoming are listed by their current owners.

Most people who post dogs on Craigslist ask for an are-homing fee, as they feel this helps to guarantee that the dog goes to a good home. Obviously, if you adopt a dog via Craigslist, that is a win-win -- the dog, the dog owner, the shelter, and the rescue.

Most of these tips also work if you are adopting the dog straight from its previous owners, whether you found them via Craigslist or not.

Since adopting can happen anytime, we recommend calling us with any dogs or puppies that may be of interest. We will continue to work hard throughout the next few days and weeks to place as many pets into adoptive homes or foster homes as possible.

As of Wednesday, according to their official Facebook page, the dogs had been returned to the Hawaii Humane Society and adopted into new homes.

Vaughn said that roughly 60 percent of the island's population has pets and that Vaughn was surprised the dot-connecting fan could get it into the hands of the Hawaii Humane Society.

Vaughn said the Hawaiian Humane Society does not have the philosophy to enter into the homes of potential adopters.

See if the pet comes with any kind of guarantee on the health, and if it does not, then try and get the dog or cat into a veterinarian's office for an examination before paying anything. While Craigslist is great for networking for a couch or other item you want to sell, think twice about using Craigslist for promoting your pets.
